The Area

There is a wealth of things to do in and around Margate, a historic, curiously eccentric town with a range of award winning blue flag beaches just 90 minutes from London.
It has unqiue attractions such as the famed Shell Grotto and the Powell Cotton Museum. There are quality places to eat and  a range of eclectic vintage shops and art galleries in which to while away the afternoon. The  David Chipperfield designed Turner Contemporary is an internationally renound art gallery.

The Isle of Thanet is famous for its microclimate and is one of the sunniest areas in the country. Turner's sunsets were captured in Margate for a reason.

There are miles of wild and natural sandy beaches framed by chalk cliffs. Margate is also an ideal base to explore the wider Kent area. Nearby towns include Broadstairs, Ramsgate, Sandwich, Deal, Whitstable and Canterbury.

The Reading Rooms is located in Hawley Square in Margate's old town, just 10 minutes walk from the station and 5 minutes from the beach and the historic Old Town.
