There is a wealth of things to do in and around Margate, a historic, curiously eccentric town with a range of award winning blue flag beaches just 90 minutes from London.
It has unqiue attractions such as the famed Shell Grotto and the Powell Cotton Museum. There are quality places to eat and  a range of eclectic vintage shops and art galleries in the Old Town in which to while away the afternoon. 
The Isle of Thanet is famous for its microclimate and is one of the sunniest areas in the country. Turner's sunsets were captured in Margate for a reason.
Activities include walking along wild and natural sandy beaches, kite surfung, cycling and golf. Margate is also an ideal base to explore the wider Kent area. Nearby towns include Broadstairs, Ramsgate, Sandwich, Deal, Whitstable and Canterbury.
The Reading Rooms is located in Hawley Square in Margate's old town, 10 minutes walk from the station and 5 minutes from the beach and the historic Old Town Quarter.
